Description

Scotland’s Community Heritage Conference celebrates public archaeology, showcases community-led projects across Scotland and supports people as they explore their connection to the past. The event is open to anyone with an interest in history, heritage or archaeology, and includes excellent talks, interactive workshops, inspirational displays and stimulating networking opportunities.

The conference is brought to you by Archaeology Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland, Scotland's Urban Past and DigIt!2017.


The conference is opened at 10am by Aberdeen City Archivist, Phil Astley.

The morning session will include:
Irvine Ross on the survey of shielings and stills in Glen Muick
Lorna Summers on the Portsoy Salmon Bothy and traditional boat building
Ann Murray on Huntly Histories (SUP project)
Anna Mayhew and Lewis Matheson (Skills for the Future Trainees, HES) on ‘Adventures on Eigg’

At noon we will have our ever popular ‘One Minute Mayhem’ session, so stand up and speak out about your project!

The afternoon session will concentrate on Oral History. We will start with short presentations on oral history projects from Aberdeen and further afield. This will be followed by workshops on:
- How to plan and record your oral history (led by the SUP team)
- How to deal with the digital material you have collected

Finally we will round up with a panel discussion (and a raffle!)
